One of the most prominent medical schools in the state of Tamil Nadu is the Government Medical College & Hospital Pudukkottai, which is connected to Dr. M.G.R. Medical University in Chennai. The Tamil Nadu chief minister officially opened the institution in 2017 after the foundation was laid in 2016. It is the 22nd government medical college and hospital in the state of Tamil Nadu and the first college in the state to admit 150 students in its first year of operation (2017). It provides DNB (Emergency Medicine) at the postgraduate level, as well as MBBS and six B.Sc. paramedical degrees at the undergraduate level. This college also offers nine paramedical certificate programs and three diploma programs.
